It was founded in 1885 and is the oldest international association concerned with these technical aspects of navigation. Okin fender is a corporate member of PIANC.
PIANC has introduced new methods and procedures for testing the performance of solid rubber fenders, allowing for real world operating conditions, in their document 'Guidelines for the Design of Fender Systems: 2002: Appendix A - Procedure to determine and report the performance of marine fenders '.
